I am absolutely ecstatic that this semester is almost over! This is my last "full" semester at Ivy Tech, and I have found myself ready for departure! It's been a long three years at a two-year school. Yes! I did take my time declaring my major! :]
I am so happy that The Joy Luck Club is over. I hated it! Sorry Mrs. S. It just wasn't my cup of tea! I'm not into reading literature! I read more books that are grouped with my age group.
Ever since high school I have been infatuated with Nicholas Spark, Jodi Picoult and James Patterson books. I am wondering if any of you have read any of those books? Jodi Picoult has a book that I read long ago in Freshman year. It's called "The Pact". It is such a heart-wrenching book. It will take you around every emotion, I recommend if you get a chance to read it. It's not a teenager book by any means. It's a GREAT love story with an unhappy ending. Just read it! I love that story! I promise, the ten thousand pages, or so it looks at first glance, is so worth it!
James Patterson has many good books. He is most known for his mysteries, but he is also a great romantic novelist as well. Everyone should already know about "The Notebook", that's a huge hit movie. (Trust me the book is still worth the reading!) But, some others to ponder are Sundays at Tiffany's, and Sam's letters to Jennifer. Each of these stories captured my heart from the very beginning. I also like that his title doesn't really give away anything. I imagined one thing with the titles, and found the story to be completely different than what I first thought.
My all-time favorite book from Nicholas Sparks is "Message In A Bottle". Obviously. There was also a movie created later based off of the novel, but it does not do the novel as much justice as it should. The movie is good, but that book is absolutely amazing. I was turning the pages crying. He can definitely spark the emotions in you!
Oh how I wish I had the time to start reading more novels again. When the bookstore in town went out of business I went in and spent a LOT of money on books that were marked 75% down! I have lots of books to read, but just no time. Hopefully after my classes are finally over and I am done with my college career, I can get back into the old habit!
Does anyone else know of any really good books that I need to read?
If you like to read, you better read Jodi Picoult books! I am looking forward to reading "My Sister's Keeper." I haven't had the time, but I haven't seen the movie, yet, either! I don't want to kill the book and see the movie first!

I am excited the semester is almost over, yet it also brings tears of joy to know I will be graduating and moving on with my life. The people I have met here at Ivy Tech Community College are like family to me and I will truly miss them. Thank Goodness for technology like Blogs, e-mails, ect... What a great way for us all to keep in touch!! =)
ReplyDeleteI have never read any Jodi Picoult books, but she sounds very interesting from the way you describe the emotional roller coaster she can produce in one's mind. I like to read Dean Koontz books. He can place a very odd twist on some of his stories and make a reader not want to put the book down.
I must admit sometimes a reader expects more than the ending he reveals, its like is that the way you really want it to end. Honestly I expected more and after all the mystery, suspence, and drama in the body and the ending was really dull. Everybody has a different opinion and hopefully not all of his books are the same at the end, but Dean Koontz is an author I would suggest for an exciting, thrilling read.
I recently purchased two series of Beverly Lewis'. They are about the Amish. They are romantic, though, clean-cut. I have two other books that are in front of them, as I have recently purchased Thornbirds and The House of Brede from the local public library and have not a chance to read them. I have seen the Thornbirds television special several times, though, never read them, as when they came out I had been quite young and the reading material was over my head. When I saw it in the booksale, I knew it was a must have. And so I intend to read the actual book for the first time. It will be intriguing to read the difference between text and theatre. The House of Brede was a given. I only have one final exam on wednesday and it is over. I work in the l.r.c. as a student worker and we do not work vacations. I will have four weeks off with the exception of the part day workshop that we will be having. I have so many things to do and reading is on the list. Good luck in the last week!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you completely! I am so glad that the semester is coming to an end and that The Joy Luck Club is over. I struggled with finishing it.
ReplyDeleteI also have to agree that James Patterson is a great author. He is one of my favorites! I have read many of his novels and have enjoyed every last one!
Just to correct my own mistake- Nicholas Sparks is actually the author of "The Notebook." I knew that.. I must have been really tired last night when I posted this! Haha!
ReplyDeleteI am liking everyone's comments and I am definitely going to be taking them into consideration. I still strongly recommend "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult, that story has stuck with me all of these years. It's worth the reading. I promise!
I am in exactly the same boat as you! 3 years now and I believe I am one class away from moving on to the next school. I have not even taken summer off, but am definitely doing it this summer. I am drained. Not too sure as I haven't ever talked to a councilor. Yes, I like to do thinks a little backwards. Makes them more interesting. I wanted to take the classes I wanted to take and then see what degree they would fit into. It has been fun, but draining.
ReplyDeleteNicholas Sparks is great, even though I cry when I read them. I refuse to watch the movies before I read the books. I think it completely ruins the book. I have yet to read Message in a Bottle, but really need to invest some time into it this summer!
